Divi, Extra, a universal Builder, a new fluid grid and the Divi Builder plugin

Some time ago I wrote a post about an upcoming Magazine theme from Elegant Themes called Extra.
The post was called Extra Magazine theme: Sneak peek and it explained that Extra was a theme built for bloggers and that with its state-of-the-art blogging centric functionality it would do for post based websites what the Divi theme has done for page based websites.

I wrote that post over six months ago and still no sign of Extra being released.

So what went wrong, why is Extra taking so long?
Is the delay a sign that things haven’t gone to plan or is it a sign that Elegant Themes have been carefuly putting the building blocks for Extra into place?

Let’s find out.

Divi theme 2.4: will be the biggest update in Divi history

Divi theme 2.4: will be the biggest update in Divi history

Last month Elegant Themes gave us a sneak peek of their upcoming Divi 2.4 release and I summarised the major new features in my post Divi theme 2.4: a sneak peek at the goodies to come.

The main delights we have to look forward to are:

  • A new set of global settings to customise site-wide elements
  • A re-coded fluid and percentage-based grid for greater responsiveness
  • Advanced design settings / custom CSS controls for every Divi Module
  • The Divi Library for saved Modules, Rows, Sections and whole Layouts

That lot is pretty impressive, but it appears that once Elegant Themes started working on Divi 2.4… they just couldn’t stop adding new features.

In fact, although a version number of 2.4 indicates a minor update, it looks as though it will be the biggest Divi update we have ever seen.

GetSiteControl: the free alternative to Bloom and Monarch

If you’re a regular reader of my blog posts you’ll know that I love both the Bloom and Monarch plugins and use them throughout this site.

Bloom allows you to create customised opt-in forms and Monarch allows you to create social share and follow features… but they are premium plugins.

So what do you do if Bloom and Monarch are a little beyond your budget or if your client insists that you use free plugins?

No problem, before I started using Bloom and Monarch I used GetSiteControl widgets, which make it easy to add Subscribe, Promotion, Social Follow, Social Share, Contact, Survey and Chat features to your website.
And best of all, GetSiteControl has a free plan.

Divi theme 2.4: a sneak peek at the goodies to come

The Divi theme has become Elegant Themes most popular theme in fact it’s more popular than all of their other themes combined. And with its Pagebuilder functionality it was certainly the drag and drop theme to beat in 2014.

But in the world of WordPress nothing stands still and in 2015 the competition realised just how popular Divi was and they began to modify and update their own themes: they began to catch up.

Unfortunately for them, when Divi 2.4 is released…. it will once again leave them trailing in its wake.

I can’t really tell you much, because Elegant Themes haven’t said much, but what they have said is enough to give you a feel for just how powerful, flexible and easy to customise Divi 2.4 will be.
